Thiago Maia Alencar (born 23 March 1997), known as Thiago Maia, is a Brazilian professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder for the Brazilian club Internacional. Thiago Maia is famous for winning a gold medal with the Brazilian Olympic team in 2016.

Thiago Maia's Football Journey
Starting Out at Santos

Thiago Maia was born in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. He started his football journey at a small local club called Extremo Norte. In 2010, he moved to São Paulo and joined São Caetano's youth teams. The next year, he moved to the famous Santos club.
Making His Debut and Scoring Goals
Thiago Maia played his first professional game for Santos on 25 October 2014. He quickly became a regular player in 2015. On 22 August 2015, he scored his first goal as a professional player. He helped Santos win a game 5–2 against Avaí.
In 2016, Thiago Maia became a key player for Santos. He played alongside Renato in the middle of the field. Many big European clubs, like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, were interested in him. On 4 March 2017, he played his 100th game for Santos. He also scored a goal in his first Copa Libertadores match.
Moving to Europe with Lille

On 15 July 2017, Thiago Maia moved to France to play for Lille. The club paid €14 million for him. He played 37 games for Lille during the 2017–18 season and scored one goal.
Returning to Brazil with Flamengo
On 22 January 2020, Thiago Maia came back to Brazil. He joined Flamengo on a loan deal for 18 months. Flamengo later made his transfer permanent on 13 January 2022. He played many important games for Flamengo.
Joining Internacional
In 2024, Thiago Maia moved to Internacional. He first joined on a loan deal. Then, on 3 July 2024, Internacional officially bought him. He signed a contract to play for them until 2026.
Playing for Brazil's National Teams
Thiago Maia has played for Brazil's youth national teams. In 2014, he was called up to the Brazil under-20 squad.
Olympic Gold Medalist
On 29 June 2016, Thiago Maia was chosen to play for the Brazil Olympic team. He played in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil won the gold medal in football that year. Thiago Maia was the first athlete from his home state of Roraima to play in the Olympics.
Thiago Maia's Personal Life
On 17 December 2024, Thiago Maia received the FIFA Fair Play Award. He earned this award for helping people during the 2024 Rio Grande do Sul floods. This shows his kindness and good sportsmanship off the field.
