The Battle of Arras was a major fight during the First World War. It was a large attack by the British Empire against German defenses. This battle took place near the city of Arras in France. It was part of the fighting on the Western Front.
The Battle of Arras began on 9 April 1917. British Empire troops managed to advance quite a bit. However, they could not break through the German lines completely. Even though they gained some ground, many soldiers were lost on both sides. The battle ended on 16 May 1917. It resulted in a stalemate, meaning neither side won a clear victory.
