Early Life and Political Start
Thomas Dawson was born on February 25, 1725. He was the first son of Richard Dawson and Elizabeth Vesey. His family lived at a place called Dawson Grove.
Thomas became involved in politics when he was still quite young. From 1749 to 1768, he represented County Monaghan in the Irish House of Commons. This was like being a Member of Parliament (MP) today.
Becoming a Peer
In 1770, Thomas Dawson was given a special title. He became Baron Dartrey, which meant he joined the Irish House of Lords. This was a higher part of the Irish Parliament. Later, in 1785, he received an even higher title: Viscount Cremorne.
Family Life
Thomas Dawson was married twice. His first wife was Anne Fermor. They married in 1754. Anne was the youngest daughter of Thomas Fermor, who was the 1st Earl of Pomfret.

- Their only son, Richard, died in 1778 when he was still young.
Second Marriage and Heirs
In 1770, Thomas married his second wife, Philadelphia Hannah Freame. She was from Philadelphia in America. Her mother was the daughter of William Penn, who founded Pennsylvania.

Because his sons had died, Thomas Dawson needed a way for his titles to continue. In 1797, he was given another title, Baron Cremorne. This title had a special rule. If he had no male children, it would pass to his nephew, Richard Dawson.
Wealth and Legacy
Lord Cremorne was one of the wealthiest landowners in Ireland. In 1799, his estates brought in about £8,000 each year. This was a very large sum of money back then.
Thomas Dawson passed away on March 1, 1813, in Mayfair, London. When he died, his titles of Viscount Cremorne and Baron Dartrey ended. However, the title of Baron Cremorne was passed on to his great-nephew, Richard Thomas Dawson.
Lady Cremorne, his second wife, lived until 1826. She was 85 years old when she passed away.
