Thomas Fitch, Jr. grew up in England. In 1638, he decided to leave England and move to America. This was a time when many people were moving to the new colonies to start a new life.
Helping Norwalk Grow
When Thomas Fitch, Jr. arrived in America, he became one of the first people to settle in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was a very successful settler. In fact, he owned more land than anyone else in Norwalk at that time. This shows how important he was to the town's early development.
Serving the Town
Thomas Fitch, Jr. was also very active in the community. He served as the town clerk of Norwalk for many years. The town clerk's job was to keep important records for the town. He held this position during these times:
