Thomas Joseph Callan (born July 12, 1853 – died May 5, 1908) was a brave soldier in the United States Army. He earned the highest military award, the Medal of Honor. He received this award for his courage during a famous battle. This battle was called the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876.

Thomas Callan was born in County Louth, Ireland. His birthday was July 12, 1853. He later moved to the United States. In March 1876, he joined the US Army.
Joining the Army
Callan became a Private in the Army. He was part of Company B. This company belonged to the 7th United States Cavalry. He had only been in the Army for three months. This was when he showed great bravery.
The Battle of Little Bighorn
His brave actions happened at the Battle of Little Big Horn. This battle took place in Montana Territory. It happened on June 25 and June 26, 1876. For his courage, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. This special medal was given to him on October 24, 1896.

Thomas Callan passed away on May 5, 1908. He was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange. This cemetery is located in New Jersey.
