Thomas Micklethwaite (born 1678, died 1718) was an important British politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP). He also held a big job called the Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. He did this from 1717 to 1718.
Early Life and Education
Thomas Micklethwaite was born in 1678. He was the first son of Joseph Micklethwaite and Constance Middleton. He also had a brother named Joseph Micklethwaite, 1st Viscount Micklethwaite. Thomas went to Jesus College, Cambridge to study. However, he did not finish his degree there.
Political Career
Thomas Micklethwaite had an active career in government. In 1708, he got a job as the Treasurer for the Commissioners of Transport. This role likely involved managing money for transportation projects.
Later, in 1717, he became a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. This was a very important position. It meant he helped manage the country's money. He took over this role after James Stanhope moved to a different top job. In 1718, Thomas Micklethwaite was also made Lieutenant-General of the Ordnance. This job involved managing military supplies.
Death
Thomas Micklethwaite passed away on March 28, 1718.
