Thomas Warming (born 20 February 1969) is a talented Danish artist. He is known for his work as an illustrator, painter, and author. He creates amazing art for books, games, and more!

Who is Thomas Warming?

Early Life and School

Thomas Warming was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1969. His parents worked for airlines, and he lived in Sweden until he was five years old.

After moving back to Denmark, Thomas went to elementary school in Kolding. He also spent a year as an exchange student at Crater High School in Oregon, USA. This experience helped him see new things and ideas.

Becoming an Artist

From a young age, Thomas was inspired by different art styles. He loved Pop art, which uses images from popular culture. He also enjoyed comic books, graffiti, and street art. These influences helped shape his unique artistic style.

In 1988, Thomas started working at an advertising company in Denmark. By the time he was 25, he became an Art Director. This meant he was in charge of the visual style and images for advertisements. At the same time, he studied fine art, focusing on painting and drawing.

Working with Other Artists

In 1993, Thomas started his own company, Warming Illustration. He joined a group of artists at a studio in Copenhagen. There, he worked alongside famous comic book creators like Peter Madsen, who made the Valhalla comics. He also worked with fantasy artists such as Jesper Ejsing.

During these years, Thomas created many different types of art. He illustrated children's books, educational books, and even board games. He also drew for magazines and advertising campaigns.

Creating Computer Games

Thomas Warming also illustrated several computer games. Two of his most notable games were for the Danish National Space Center. These games helped make learning about space fun and exciting for kids. He worked with a Danish game company called Wegame on these projects.

He then started a science fiction series for young adults called Tellus. The first book, Tellus - del 1: Lys I Mørket (Captain Tellus – Part 1: Light In The Dark), came out in 2006. The second part of the series is currently being made.

Art Shows and Teaching

Thomas Warming has also continued his fine art painting. His work has been shown in many solo and group art shows. In 2008 and 2009, he was chosen to represent Denmark at the MoCCA Art Festival in New York. This is a big event for comics and cartoon art.

Besides creating art, Thomas also shared his knowledge with others. He taught art classes for ten years at the Copenhagen Technical College. He taught students about drawing comics, perspective, and acrylic painting.

What is Thomas Warming Doing Now?

In 2009, Thomas Warming moved to New York City. He received a special visa for extraordinary artists.

He is currently working as a Lead Concept Designer and Matte Painter for Walsh Family Media. They are making an animated movie called The Cool Beans: We Need a Hit. A Danish film director, Tao Nørager, is even making a documentary about Thomas and his work on this movie!

Kanonkongen (The Cannonball King)

This children's book is for kids aged 5 and up. It has 32 pages, all hand-painted with bright acrylic colors. The Copenhagen Public Library even nominated it as their Book of the Month!

Newspapers in Denmark liked the book, calling it "a promising debut with an appeal for children who like action."

Tellus - del 1: Lys I Mørket (Captain Tellus – Part 1: Light In The Dark)

This book is the first part of a science fiction series for young adults. It's a mix of a picture book, a graphic novel, and a comic book.

It has 64 pages, fully illustrated with acrylics and Photoshop. The book was published in Denmark in a unique wide format. The second part of the Tellus series is still being created.
