Thompsonville is a small, quiet place located in Kent County, Delaware, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that aren't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Thompsonville is found northeast of the town of Milford, right where Milford Neck Road and Bennetts Pier Road meet.

A Look Back: Thompsonville's History
Thompsonville has a history that goes back a long time. It shows how communities grow and change over the years.
Early Beginnings
One of the oldest parts of Thompsonville's history is the Thompsonville Methodist Church. It was first started way back in 1790. This church has been a central part of the community for over 200 years.
Mail Delivery Changes
For a while, Thompsonville had its own post office. It opened in July 1891 and was located inside the Thompson Store. People would go there to send and receive their mail. However, things changed in March 1902. That's when rural free delivery started in the area. This meant that mail carriers would deliver mail directly to people's homes, even in the countryside. Because of this new service, the post office in Thompsonville was no longer needed and it closed.
Fire Protection for the Community
In 1970, the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Company decided to open a fire station in Thompsonville. This was a big step for keeping the community safe. Later on, the fire company decided to move all their operations. They closed their original station in South Bowers and moved everything to the Thompsonville location. This made the Thompsonville fire station the main hub for their important work.
