A Journey Through Time: Park History

For many years, this spot was a very important place for people to cross the Snake River. It was a "ford," which means the river was shallow enough for wagons and animals to walk across. This was a big part of the famous Oregon Trail, where pioneers traveled west.

In 1869, a man named Gus Glenn built a ferry boat a little way up the river. This made crossing much easier and safer than walking through the water. The ferry helped many people continue their journey.

The land for the park was given by the city of Glenns Ferry in 1968. The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation then took care of it. The park officially opened to the public in 1971.
