Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr (born 22 July 1993) is an amazing Australian athlete. She is famous for being a CrossFit Games champion and an Olympic weightlifter. Tia-Clair has won the CrossFit Games seven times. This is more than any other athlete in the history of the sport! She also won a gold medal in weightlifting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Tia-Clair also competed in weightlifting at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She finished 14th in her event. At the CrossFit Games, she was the runner-up in 2015 and 2016. Then, she became the winner in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Early Life and Sports Beginnings

Tia-Clair Toomey was born on 22 July 1993 in Nambour, Queensland, Australia. She was the oldest of three sisters. She grew up on a sugarcane farm near the Maroochy River. When she was 12, her family moved to Weipa.

Tia-Clair was a runner in school. Later, in Gladstone, she focused on 400-meter hurdles. Her future husband, Shane Orr, introduced her to CrossFit. He used CrossFit to help with his rugby training. She joined a CrossFit gym and started competing in 2013. This is how she learned the basics of weightlifting too.

Competitions and Achievements

CrossFit Games Journey

Tia-Clair first tried the CrossFit Open in 2013, just a month after starting CrossFit. In 2015, she qualified for the CrossFit Games for the first time. She finished second and was named "Rookie of the Year."

In 2016, she was again the runner-up. The competition was very close. In 2017, Tia-Clair won her first CrossFit Games title. It was a very tight finish!

She won again in 2018, with a big lead. In 2019, she won by an even bigger margin. This made her the first woman to win three CrossFit Games.

Tia-Clair continued her winning streak. She won in 2020, making it four wins in a row. Her performance that year was amazing. She won nine out of 12 events! She won her fifth title in 2021, tying the record for most wins. She also broke the record for most event wins.

In 2022, Tia-Clair won her sixth title. This made her the only person to win six individual CrossFit Games titles. She took a break in 2023 because she was pregnant. But she came back in 2024 and won her seventh title! This extended her record as the athlete with the most wins ever.

Olympic Dreams

In 2013, Tia-Clair lifted a personal best in weightlifting. This caught the eye of a coach named Miles Wydall. He offered to train her for the 2016 Summer Olympics. After only 18 months of serious training, she qualified for the Olympics. She finished 14th in the women's 58 kg weightlifting event.

In 2020, Tia-Clair decided to try a new sport. She trained with the Australian bobsleigh team. She hoped to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics. In her first bobsled competition, she won two races! Her team qualified for the Olympics. However, she was not chosen for the final Australian team.

Commonwealth Games Gold

Tia-Clair also competed in weightlifting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She won a gold medal in the 58 kg event. This was another big achievement in her career.

Personal Life

Tia-Clair met her husband and coach, Shane Orr, when they were in high school. They got married in 2017. In December 2022, Tia-Clair announced she was pregnant. Her daughter, Willow, was born on 9 May 2023.

Tia-Clair and Shane used to own a gym in Gladstone. They sold it in 2019 and moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, in the United States. There, they trained at a famous CrossFit gym. Other top athletes, like Mat Fraser, also trained with them. Later, they moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
