Tia-Clair Toomey's Early Life

Tia-Clair Toomey was born on July 22, 1993, in Nambour, Queensland, Australia. She was the oldest of three sisters. She grew up on a sugarcane farm near the Maroochy River.

However, she soon moved to Gladstone to be with Shane Orr, who would later become her husband. In Gladstone, she worked as a dental assistant and then as a lab technician.

How Tia-Clair Started CrossFit

In school, Tia-Clair was a runner, focusing on 400-meter hurdles. In Gladstone, Shane Orr introduced her to CrossFit. He used CrossFit to help with his own sports training.

Tia-Clair joined a CrossFit gym and quickly became very good at it. She started competing in CrossFit events in 2013. This is also how she learned the basics of weightlifting.

Tia-Clair's Amazing Competitions

Tia-Clair Toomey has competed in many different sports events. She is best known for her success in CrossFit, but she has also done very well in weightlifting.

CrossFit Games Success

Tia-Clair first tried the CrossFit Open competition less than a month after starting CrossFit in 2013. In 2015, she qualified for the CrossFit Games for the first time. She finished second and was named "Rookie of the Year."

In 2016, she again placed second at the CrossFit Games. The competition was very close!

Winning Her First CrossFit Games Title

The 2017 CrossFit Games was another very close competition. Tia-Clair won her first title by just two points! This was a huge moment for her.

After that, she became almost unstoppable. She won the 2018 Games by a large lead. In 2019, she won again, becoming the first woman to win three CrossFit Games titles.

Setting New Records

In 2020, Tia-Clair won her fourth title in a row. She was incredibly dominant, winning nine out of 12 events. This was the most impressive performance ever by a female CrossFit athlete.

She continued her winning streak in 2021, earning her fifth title. She won nine out of 15 events and set a new record for total points. This win also tied the record for most titles held by any athlete, male or female.

Tia-Clair won her sixth title at the 2022 CrossFit Games. This made her the only person to ever win six individual CrossFit Games titles.

She did not compete in the 2023 CrossFit Games because she was pregnant. However, she still took part in the Open competition that year!
