Tiffany Springs is a neighborhood located in Kansas City, Missouri, in the United States. It was started in 1891 by a person named Flavel B. Tiffany. He first called it Artesian Springs. He hoped it would become a popular spa resort, similar to Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
History of Tiffany Springs
Flavel B. Tiffany was a very important eye doctor, also known as an ophthalmologist, in Kansas City. He did a lot of work and built many things. One of his biggest projects was to create a spa resort. He wanted it to be as successful as Excelsior Springs.
In the late 1880s, Mr. Tiffany bought about 1,100 acres of land in Platte County. This land had a special underground water source called an Artesian aquifer. This means water naturally flows up from the ground.
A post office named Artesian Springs opened in 1891. It operated for a few years until 1895. After that, the town's name was changed to Tiffany Springs. However, Mr. Tiffany's big plans for the resort were not fully completed. Later, the city of Kansas City took over most of this land. A large part of it eventually became the Kansas City International Airport.
