Til Brugman was a talented Dutch writer, poet, and translator. She was also a linguist, meaning she studied languages. Til was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on September 16, 1888. She passed away in Gouda, Netherlands, on July 24, 1958.

About Til Brugman's Life

Til Brugman lived in The Hague from 1926 to 1936. Later, she moved to Berlin. During these years, she lived with Hannah Höch, a famous German artist known for her Dada art. In 1935, Til published a book called Scheingehacktes, which included drawings by Hannah Höch.

Til Brugman's Unique Music Room

Til Brugman had a very special music room in her apartment in The Hague. This room was designed by Vilmos Huszár, an artist from the De Stijl art movement. The room also featured unique furniture made by Gerrit Rietveld, another famous Dutch designer.

One special piece was a White Chair. Gerrit Rietveld designed this chair just for Til Brugman in 1923. Before he created his well-known Red and Blue Chair, he made several chairs in single colors. The music room also had a colorful end table, also designed by Gerrit Rietveld.

Awards and Recognition

Til Brugman received important awards for her writing. In 1952, she was given the Marianne Philips Prize. She also won the Novels Prize in Amsterdam that same year. These awards recognized her valuable contributions to literature.

Til Brugman wrote many different types of works, including poetry and stories. She also translated books from other languages into Dutch.

Til Brugman's Translation Work

Til Brugman was also a skilled translator. She helped bring many stories and books to Dutch readers. For example, she translated works by authors like Karl Bruckner and Hans Baumann. She also translated essays by Piet Mondriaan for a book about the De Stijl art movement.
