Til Schweiger was born in Freiburg, West Germany. His parents were both teachers. He grew up in Heuchelheim near Giessen in Hesse. Later, he took acting classes at a school called Der Keller in Cologne.
Acting and Directing Career
Til Schweiger first worked as a producer and director (without being credited) in 1997 for the movie Knockin' on Heaven's Door. He also directed and produced Der Eisbär in 1998.
Popular Films and Awards
In 2005, Schweiger won a Bambi Award for Barfuss (Barefoot). He helped write, directed, and starred in this film. He also won a Bambi for his role in Traumschiff Surprise – Periode 1.

Til Schweiger married American model Dana Carlsen in 1995. They have four children: Valentin, Luna, Lilli, and Emma Tiger Schweiger. Til and Dana separated in 2005 and later divorced in 2014.
Til Schweiger lives in Mallorca, Spain.
