Tim & Friends is a popular sports talk show hosted by Tim Micallef. It used to be called Tim & Sid. The show is broadcast on the Canadian sports TV channel Sportsnet. You can also listen to it on Sportsnet's radio station in Toronto, CJCL. This means it airs on TV and radio at the same time.

The show started in 2011 as a radio program on CJCL. It was hosted by Tim Micallef and Sid Seixeiro. In 2013, it also started airing on TV, on a channel called The Score (now Sportsnet 360). In 2015, Tim & Sid became a main TV show on Sportsnet. Sid Seixeiro left the show in 2021, and it was renamed Tim & Friends.

Tim & Friends usually airs on weeknights from 5 to 7 p.m. ET. Sometimes, the TV show is shorter, about 90 minutes. This happens when there's pre-game coverage for Toronto Blue Jays or National Hockey League (NHL) games. However, the radio show on CJCL always airs for the full two hours.

How the Show Started

The show began in 2011 as Tim & Sid. It was a radio show on CJCL, a sports talk station in Toronto. This station is owned by a company called Rogers Media. In May 2013, the show also started airing on TV on The Score. This happened around the same time Rogers bought The Score, which was later renamed Sportsnet 360.

Tim and Sid were known for their relaxed and open style. They became very popular with younger fans. The show gained even more attention during the 2014 Winter Olympics. For example, their live reaction to Canada's winning goal in the Women's hockey gold medal game became a viral video.

In 2015, Rogers made some changes to CJCL's schedule. Tim & Sid was replaced by a new afternoon radio show. At the same time, Sportsnet announced that Tim & Sid would become a TV-only show. It premiered on July 1, 2015. Scott Moore, who was in charge of Sportsnet, said Tim and Sid were like a "sports content factory." He meant they could create sports content for TV and social media. He also said they could connect with sports fans in many ways. When Tim or Sid couldn't host, other people like Donnovan Bennett or Faizal Khamisa would fill in.

In 2019, the Toronto Raptors won their first NBA championship. Tim Micallef and Sid Seixeiro helped host the parade coverage for Sportsnet and Citytv. On September 25, 2019, it was announced that the show would also start airing on CJCL again. This began on October 14, replacing another show called Prime Time Sports.

The show returned on March 8, 2021, with its new name, Tim & Friends. Sid Seixeiro made a guest appearance on June 1, 2021. He called in to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs losing in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Guests and Guest Hosts

Many guests and guest hosts have appeared on the show over the years. Some of them include:

  • Steve "Dangle" Glynn: He hosts Leafs Fan Reaction and The Steve Dangle Podcast. He also has shows on Sportsnet. Steve filled in for Tim Micallef on November 22, 2018.
  • Jack Edwards: He is a play-by-play commentator for the Boston Bruins. He used to work for ESPN.

Show Popularity

When Tim & Sid first became a TV show, it quickly became very popular. In its first month, it helped Sportsnet get 19% more viewers during its time slot. In its second month, viewership went up by 18%. It became the most-watched sports show in Canada during the 6–7 p.m. ET time. It even beat TSN's SportsCentre.

By September 2015, the show was attracting over 100,000 viewers. A couple of months later, it was reported that Tim & Sid was more watched than TSN's Off the Record. This made Tim & Sid the most-watched sports program in Canada between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
