Baillie and Stott finished in sixth place. This was the last spot to qualify for the final. Because they had the slowest qualifying time, they were the first to race in the final. They set a time of 106.41 seconds. No other team could beat their time. Timothy and Etienne won the gold medal! This happened in front of 12,000 cheering fans. The event was held at the Lee Valley White Water Centre on August 2.
Another British team, David Florence and Richard Hounslow, finished second. Their time was 106.77 seconds. Many people thought Baillie and Stott's win was a "surprise." The pair themselves described winning gold as "mad."
