Timothy Mark Baillie MBE was born on May 11, 1979, in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is a slalom canoeist who competed for Great Britain. Timothy started competing internationally in 1996. He first raced in a single canoe (K1) but switched to a two-person canoe (C2) in 2003. He stopped competing in the sport in 2013. Timothy is famous for winning a gold medal in the C2 event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Timothy Baillie's Canoeing Journey
Timothy Baillie and his canoeing partner, Etienne Stott, achieved great success together. They won two bronze medals in the C2 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. These wins happened in 2009 and 2011.
European Championships Success
The pair also earned a bronze medal in the C2 event at the 2009 European Canoe Slalom Championships. This competition took place in Nottingham, England. They also finished fourth at the 2009 World Championships. Timothy and Etienne won a silver and another bronze medal in the C2 team event at other European Championships. They competed alongside other British teams. In 2012, they were part of the British team that won gold. This was at the European Championships in Augsburg, Germany. They also became British Premier Division Champions.
Winning Olympic Gold in 2012
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Timothy Baillie and Etienne Stott competed in the C2 event. They successfully made it through the first rounds on July 30. Then, they moved on to the semi-final. In the semi-final, only the top six teams could go to the final. Baillie and Stott finished in sixth place, just making it into the final race.
Because they had the slowest qualifying time, they raced first in the final. They set a time of 106.41 seconds. No other team was able to beat their time! Timothy Baillie and Etienne Stott won the gold medal. This amazing win happened on August 2 in front of a huge crowd. Another British team, David Florence and Richard Hounslow, finished second. Their success was a big surprise to many. Timothy and Etienne described winning gold as "mad."

Life Outside of Sport
Timothy Baillie went to Westhill Academy for school. After that, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham.
In 2013, he was given an award called the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award recognized his important contributions to canoeing.
Timothy is married to Canadian slalom canoeist Sarah Boudens.
