Timothy John Hegarty, known as Tim Hegarty, is a musician and songwriter from Northern Ireland. He was born on November 7, 1965, in Derry. Tim is famous for writing songs for many artists, including the hit song "Shoot Me with Your Love" for the group D Ream.
About Tim Hegarty
Tim Hegarty was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. His parents are Hugh and Eilis Hegarty. He went to St Columb's College for school. Later, he studied economics at Queen's University Belfast for two years.
When he was 21, Tim moved to London. He wanted to become a musician and also worked as an estate agent. In London, he met Julie Parry, who was an accountant. They got married in 1997. In 2002, Tim and Julie moved to Edinburgh with their three sons. Today, Tim lives in Bath.
Tim's Music Career
Tim Hegarty started his music journey in 1982. He was a drummer in a band from Derry called Tie The Boy. Another musician, Peter Cunnah, was also in this band. Tie The Boy recorded a special session for BBC Radio 1 and played many concerts around Northern Ireland.
After Tie The Boy broke up, Tim formed a new band called Baby June. Tim also helped write the popular song "Shoot Me with Your Love" for the group D Ream. This song became a big hit, reaching number 7 in the UK charts in July 1995.
Tim has written songs for other famous artists too. He wrote "No one can love you more" for Gloria Gaynor's album I Wish You Love. He also wrote songs for the band Worlds Apart.
In 2009, Tim and his wife, Julie, created a musical called Crabbit: The Musical. They worked with producer Sarah Townsend to put on the show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
More recently, in 2014, Tim started a new band called Derry. He named the band after his hometown. The band has released their first collection of songs, called Couldn't I Be the One.
Helping Others
Tim Hegarty has also used his music to help people. In 1999, he worked with record company boss Ross Graham. They created a charity album called Across the Bridge of Hope. This album raised over £330,000 to help the victims of the Omagh Bombings.
In 2010, Tim wrote a song called Lovely Day. This song helped raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity that supports cancer research.
