Playing Career Highlights
Perry played college basketball for Temple University from 1984 to 1988. He became the school's all-time leader in blocks with 392. In the 1988 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns picked him seventh overall. During his eight seasons in the NBA, he averaged 6.8 points and 4 rebounds per game.
NBA Slam Dunk Contests
Tim Perry was known for his exciting dunks. He took part in three NBA Slam Dunk Contests. He finished 5th in 1989, 7th in 1993, and 5th again in 1995.
Memorable Game Moments
On February 7, 1994, while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Perry had an amazing game. He scored 31 points against the Charlotte Hornets. This was his highest score in an NBA game. He also made seven 3-pointers in that game. Before this, he had only made 15 three-pointers in his first five seasons combined!
Playing in Spain
After his NBA career, Perry moved to Spain for the 1996–1997 season. He played five seasons in the Liga ACB, Spain's top basketball league. In 1998, he helped Pamesa Valencia win the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto, a major Spanish cup.
Life After Playing Basketball
After retiring from playing, Tim Perry became an assistant coach. He coached for Holy Family University, Pennsylvania. This university is part of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in NCAA Division II. In 2011, he earned a degree in liberal studies from Neumann University.
Shaquille O'Neal's Remark
On October 25, 2017, basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal spoke on NBA Gametime. He said that only three players had ever "dunked on" him in his 20-year NBA career. Shaquille O'Neal named Michael Jordan, Derrick Coleman, and Tim Perry as those players.
