Timothy D. Perry (born June 4, 1965) is an American former basketball player. He played for 13 seasons as a professional. His career included time in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the U.S. and the Liga ACB in Spain.
Playing Basketball
Tim Perry played college basketball for Temple University from 1984 to 1988. He became the school's all-time leader in "blocks" with 392. A block happens when a player stops an opponent's shot without fouling them.
After college, Tim was chosen by the Phoenix Suns in the 1988 NBA draft. The NBA draft is where professional teams pick new players from college or other leagues. He was the seventh player picked overall that year.
During his eight seasons in the NBA, Tim Perry averaged 6.8 points and 4 rebounds per game. A rebound is when a player gets the ball after a shot is missed.
Tim Perry also took part in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest three times. This is a fun competition where players show off their best dunks. He finished 5th in 1989, 7th in 1993, and 5th in 1995.
On February 7, 1994, while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Tim Perry had an amazing game. He made seven 3-point shots. This was a big deal because he had only made 15 3-pointers in his first five seasons combined. He scored 31 points in that game, which was his highest score ever in the NBA.
In 1996, Tim Perry moved to Spain to play in the Liga ACB. He played there for five seasons. In 1998, his team, Pamesa Valencia, won the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto. This is a major basketball cup competition in Spain.
Life After Playing
After his playing career, Tim Perry became an assistant coach. He coached for Holy Family University, Pennsylvania. This university is part of NCAA Division II basketball.
In 2011, he earned a degree in liberal studies from Neumann University.
In 2017, famous basketball player Shaquille O'Neal said something interesting on TV. He claimed that only three players had ever "dunked on" him during his 20-year career. One of those players was Tim Perry!
