Tino di Geraldo facts for kids
Tino di Geraldo (born Faustino Fernández Fernández in 1960) is a talented musician from France and Spain. He is known for playing many different instruments, especially drums and tabla, which is a type of drum from India. Tino is one of the best flamenco and jazz percussionists in Spain. He mixes sounds from classical music, jazz, and even punk-rock into his flamenco style. A famous music magazine, Billboard, once called him an "eminent flamenco musician," which means a very important one!
Tino's Musical Journey
Tino was born in Toulouse, France, and grew up there. His parents were from Asturias, a region in Spain. He learned to play classical and jazz drums when he was young. Later, he moved to Madrid, Spain, where he met a musician named Diego Carrasco. Diego needed a percussionist, and that's how Tino started playing flamenco music.
Tino has worked with many big names in flamenco and Latin music. Some of these famous artists include Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Chano Domínguez, and Niña Pastori. He also played on Paco de Lucía's album called Luzia in 1998.
He has also worked with musicians from other countries. For example, he played with French-Vietnamese jazz guitarist Nguyen Le. Tino also toured with American folk musician Jackson Browne starting in 2006. He even helped produce and played on Jackson Browne's live album Love Is Strange: En Vivo Con Tino.
Working with Other Musicians
Tino di Geraldo formed a music group with two other amazing musicians, Carles Benavent and Jorge Pardo. Both of them also played with Paco de Lucía. Their group toured together in 1998 and again in 2007–2008.
Tino played percussion on Jorge Pardo's album 2332. He also played on an album called Aire by Moraíto.
In 2003, Tino released his own album, simply called Tino. It took him three years to finish this album! Interestingly, it had only one flamenco song, showing how he loves to mix different music styles.
Besides playing music, Tino is also a producer. This means he helps other artists record their music. He has produced albums for musicians like Luz Casal, Diego Carrasco, and Tomasito.
