Early Days of Tinsley
Back in 1907, Tinsley was a small but active place. It had its own post office, where people could send and receive mail. There were also several stores for shopping. At that time, about 50 people lived in Tinsley.
The Discovery of Oil
A big moment for Tinsley happened in 1939. The Tinsley Oil Field, located just south of the community, became famous. This was the very first time oil was found and produced for sale in the state of Mississippi. It was a huge discovery!
Railroad Connections
A railway line belonging to the Illinois Central Railroad goes right through Tinsley. This railroad helped connect Tinsley to other places. In 2005, a company called Denbury Resources planned to use a special method to get more oil from the fields in Tinsley. They wanted to inject carbon dioxide into the oil fields. A pipeline was built in 2007 to bring the compressed gas from Jackson.
