Tiptonville is a town located in Lake County, Tennessee, in the United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, of Lake County. In 2020, about 3,976 people lived there. Tiptonville is also home to the Northwest Correctional Complex, which is a large prison.

History of Tiptonville
Tiptonville was first started in 1857. It officially became a town in 1900. When Lake County was created in 1870, Tiptonville was chosen as its county seat. This means it's where the county government offices are located.
The Battle of Island Number Ten
Tiptonville played a part in the American Civil War. In 1862, it was where Confederate soldiers gave up after the Battle of Island Number Ten. This battle was important because it helped the Union gain control of the Mississippi River. The island where the battle happened no longer exists because the river's flow has worn it away. You can find a monument for this battle about three miles north of Tiptonville on State Route 22.
Town Fire of 1901
On March 19, 1901, a big fire destroyed much of Tiptonville.
Geography and Location
Tiptonville is located at 36°22′39″N 89°28′34″W / 36.37750°N 89.47611°W. It sits on a small raised area called the Tiptonville Dome. This area is also part of the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which means it can experience earthquakes.
To the west and north of Tiptonville is the Mississippi River. The Kentucky Bend is to the north, and Reelfoot Lake is to the east. The town covers an area of about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
