Tixtla (officially called Tixtla de Guerrero) is a town in the Mexican state of Guerrero. It is the main town of the municipality of Tixtla de Guerrero.
The name "Tixtla" comes from the Nahuatl language. It can mean "maize dough," "our valley," or "temple by the water."

Tixtla as Capital
Tixtla was the first capital city of Guerrero. It served as the capital from 1851 to 1870. The state's constitution was also created and announced there on June 14, 1851.

Tixtla is located about 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of Chilpancingo. Chilpancingo is the current capital of Guerrero state. The municipality covers an area of about 290 square kilometers (112 square miles).
