The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is a very important Catholic church. It is located in the city of Tlaxcala, Mexico. This church was first called the Temple of St. Francis of Assisi. Later, when the area became a diocese, it was named the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption.
This amazing building was constructed a long time ago, between 1530 and 1536. It has a single main room, or nave, with a special wooden roof. This roof is made of wooden beams and has beautiful Mudejar-style panels. This style is very old and unique. The roof is one of the last of its kind left in the Americas. The church also has an octagonal dome and is part of a larger convent area.
In 2021, something very special happened. The Cathedral was added to the Monasteries on the slopes of Popocatépetl UNESCO World Heritage Site list. This means it is recognized as a place of great importance to the world.
