Tlilapan is a small town and a municipality in the central part of Veracruz, a state in Mexico. It is about 85 kilometres (53 mi) away from Xalapa, the state capital.
The name Tlilapan comes from the Náhuatl language. It means "Black creek." The area has been settled since the 1500s. After Mexico became independent, Tlilapan became a municipality. This happened along with other towns like Orizaba and Nogales. The town's cemetery was started in 1880. In 1916, Tlilapan got its first Municipal President.
