Tmesiphantes is a group of tarantulas that live in Brazil and Argentina. These amazing spiders belong to a larger family called Theraphosidae, which includes all tarantulas. The first scientist to describe this group was Eugène Louis Simon in 1892.
For a long time, there were other spider groups called Magulla and Melloleitaoina. But in 2019, scientists decided that these groups were actually the same as Tmesiphantes. This means they are now considered synonyms, or different names for the same thing.
Species of Tmesiphantes
As of August 2022, there are 22 known species of Tmesiphantes tarantulas. Most of them are found in Brazil, but some also live in Argentina and Peru. Each species has its own unique features and can be found in different parts of these countries.
