Tmetolophota propria is a moth of the family Noctuidae. It was described by Francis Walker in 1856. It is endemic to New Zealand, where it is very common and widespread in montane to alpine grassland areas. In 2019 lepidopterist Robert J. B. Hoare undertook a major review of New Zealand noctuids. Hoare, having inspected the type material of this species, placed it within the genus Ichneutica.
The larvae feed on endemic and adventive grasses.
