Toa Alta barrio-pueblo is a special part of Toa Alta. It's like the main town center or the "heart" of the municipality. Here, you'll find the most important buildings and a central gathering place. In 2010, about 397 people lived here.
In Puerto Rico, it's common for a municipality to have a section called pueblo. This area usually has a main square, also known as a plaza. Around this plaza, you'll find the town hall and a Catholic church. Every year, special festivals called Fiestas patronales are held in this central plaza. These celebrations honor the town's patron saint.

The Central Plaza and Its Church
The central plaza is a lively spot for fun events and for people to meet. It's a place where friends and families can gather from morning until night. Old Spanish laws, called the Laws of the Indies, guided how towns in Puerto Rico were built. These laws said that the plaza should be big enough for celebrations.
They also said that streets nearby should have comfortable walkways. These walkways would protect people from the sun and rain.
Right across from the central plaza in Toa Alta barrio-pueblo is the Parroquia San Fernando Rey. This is a Roman Catholic church. It was built a long time ago, between 1752 and 1826.
History of Toa Alta Pueblo
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that 991 people lived in the Pueblo barrio at that time.
