Why is it called Toews Lake?

This lake was named in 2010 after a famous ice hockey player, Jonathan Toews. He was born in Winnipeg, which is also in Manitoba.

Jonathan Toews' Achievements

Jonathan Toews had a very successful year in 2010. He helped the Canadian national team win a gold medal in ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He also played for the Chicago Blackhawks team and helped them win the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup is one of the most important trophies in ice hockey.

Toews also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010. This award is given to the most valuable player during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

How the Lake was Named

Greg Selinger, who was the Premier of Manitoba at the time, officially named the lake after Jonathan Toews. The Premier is like the leader of the provincial government. When he presented the certificate to Toews, he said, "We thought we'd name a lake after him, 'cause Manitoba has 100,000 lakes." This shows how proud Manitoba was of Jonathan Toews' achievements.
