Toledo Island (called ostrov Toledo in Bulgarian) is a small, rocky island. It is located in Smyadovo Cove, which is on the west coast of Rugged Island. Both islands are part of the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica.
Toledo Island is about 320 meters (1,050 feet) long from east to west. It is also about 110 meters (360 feet) wide. It is separated from Rugged Island by a narrow passage, about 40 meters (130 feet) wide. To its north, another island called Prosechen Island is about 60 meters (200 feet) away. In the early 1800s, people who hunted seals visited this area.
The island is named after Joaquín de Toledo y Parra. He was a captain in the Spanish Navy in the early 1800s. His warship, the San Telmo, was lost at sea in 1819. It sank near Livingston Island, which is also in the South Shetland Islands.
