Tomáš Galásek (born 15 January 1973) is a former football player from the Czech Republic. He mostly played as a holding midfielder. This means he helped protect the defense and win the ball back. He was also good as a centre-back, which is a central defender.

Playing for Clubs
Tomáš Galásek started his football journey with Baník Ostrava in 1991. He played there for several years.
Time at Willem II
In 1997, he moved to Willem II Tilburg in the Netherlands. With Willem II, his team finished fifth in the Eredivisie league. This was a big achievement. It meant they qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in 30 years.
The next year, Willem II did even better. They finished second in the league. This allowed them to play in the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever. Tomáš played five matches in this top European competition.
Playing for Ajax
In the summer of 2000, Tomáš joined Ajax, another famous Dutch club. At Ajax, he won the national championship twice. He also won the national cup once. He played 26 times in the Champions League for Ajax.
Later Club Years
From 2006, Tomáš played for 1. FC Nürnberg in Germany's top league, the Bundesliga. In 2008, he returned to his first club, Baník Ostrava. Later that year, he signed with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In July 2009, he said he was retiring from professional football. However, he made a comeback later that year. He signed with FSV Erlangen-Bruck in a lower German league.
Playing for His Country
Tomáš Galásek first played for the Czech Republic in 1995. He was an important part of the team.
Euro 2004 and World Cup
He helped his country reach the semifinals of Euro 2004. This is a major European tournament. He was also the captain of the Czech team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This is the biggest football tournament in the world.
Ending International Career
In June 2008, after a match at UEFA Euro 2008, he decided to stop playing for the national team. He had played 69 matches for the Czech Republic. He scored one goal during his international career.
Becoming a Coach
After his playing career, Tomáš Galásek started coaching.
- In 2011–12, he coached the Under-15 team at FSV Erlangen-Bruck. His son played on this team.
- The next year, he became an assistant coach for the Czech national team.
- From 2013 to 2015, he was an assistant coach for 1. FC Schweinfurt 05.
- In 2015, he became the head coach of SpVgg SV Weiden. He has continued to coach in various roles since then.
