Tomás de Castro is a neighborhood, also called a barrio, located in the city of Caguas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 19,414 people lived here. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.
A Look Back: History of Tomás de Castro
This neighborhood got its name from a military person named Tomás de Castro del Valenciano.
A long time ago, after the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a special area linked to the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,575 people lived in the Tomás de Castro neighborhood at that time.
