Tom Abbs (born in 1972) is an American musician and filmmaker. He is known for playing many different instruments. These include the double bass, tuba, cello, violin, didgeridoo, and wooden flute. He often plays several instruments at the same time! Tom mainly plays jazz music, especially styles called free jazz and free improvisation.

Tom Abbs's Musical Journey
Tom grew up in Seattle, Washington. He went to a special music school called The New School. There, he learned from amazing musicians like Reggie Workman and Buster Williams. He started performing music in 1992.
Playing with Other Talented Musicians
Tom has played with many famous jazz artists. Some of these include Lawrence "Butch" Morris, Charles Gayle, and Daniel Carter. He is also part of several music groups. These groups are called Triptych Myth, Yuganaut, and Transmitting. Tom also leads his own band, Frequency Response. He performs a solo show called Multifarious, which combines music and art. He has even worked with a painter named M. P. Landis.
Starting Music Companies
Tom Abbs is also a founder of Jump Arts. This was a group that put on music shows and workshops in New York City from 1997 to 2002. From 2007 to 2010, he was the general manager for ESP-Disk, a record label. Later, he started his own record company called Northern Spy Records with Adam Downey.
