Thomas Edward Henderson (born January 26, 1952) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for nine years. Tom was born in Newberry, South Carolina.
He was a strong guard who played college basketball at the University of Hawaii. The Atlanta Hawks picked him in the first round of the 1974 NBA draft. Before that, the San Antonio Spurs also chose him in a different draft in 1973.
Tom Henderson had a great career from 1974 to 1983. He played for the Hawks, the Washington Bullets, and the Houston Rockets. He scored over 6,000 points and made over 3,000 assists during his time in the NBA. He even played in the NBA Finals three times. In 1978, he helped the Washington Bullets win the NBA championship!
After he stopped playing basketball, Tom Henderson started working as an administrator. He works at a place for young people in Houston.

The 1972 Olympic Basketball Final
When Tom Henderson was still in college, he was part of the United States basketball team. They played in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. The final game was against the Soviet Union. It was a very famous and controversial game.
The game ended with the U.S. team thinking they had won. But then, the clock was reset, and the Soviet Union got another chance to score. They ended up winning the game.
Tom Henderson and his teammates felt that the game was not fair. They believed they had won the first time. Because of this, they have never accepted the silver medals they were awarded.
The game ended, and we won. Then it ended again, and we won again.
"They were going to keep going until they got the outcome they wanted: the Russians winning.
