Thomas Edwin Jarriel (born December 29, 1934 – died October 2024) was an American television news reporter. He worked for the ABC network for many years, from 1964 until 2002.

A Career in News
Thomas Jarriel had a long and successful career in television news. He helped bring important stories to people across the United States.
Reporting from the White House
Soon after he joined ABC News, Thomas Jarriel became a White House correspondent. This meant he reported on the U.S. President and their activities directly from the White House. He covered the presidencies of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
Investigating Important Stories
In 1977, Jarriel started co-anchoring the ABC Evening News on Saturdays. He did this for two years. Then, in 1979, he joined the famous news show 20/20. On 20/20, he worked as an investigative correspondent. This meant he looked deeply into important topics.
He covered many different subjects for 20/20 and other special documentaries. He reported on problems within the American justice system. He also looked into how the United States Department of Defense spent money. Another area he covered was transportation accidents. For his excellent work, he won 10 Emmy Awards. An Emmy Award is a special prize given for great achievements in television.
Anchoring the News
During much of his time at ABC, Jarriel also anchored short news updates. These were 15-minute news reports that aired late at night on Saturdays and Sundays. He also often anchored the shorter ABC News Brief updates during the daytime. He sometimes filled in as a substitute anchor for World News Tonight, which is a major evening news program.
Later Life and Legacy
Thomas Jarriel retired from broadcasting in 2002. He had spent many years informing the public about important events. He passed away in October 2024, at the age of 89.
