Anthony Allcock, born in 1955, is a famous English player of bowls. He comes from Leicestershire, England. Many people think he is one of the best bowls players ever. He won the world outdoor singles championship twice. He also won the world indoor singles championship three times.

Tony Allcock's Bowls Career

Tony Allcock has had an amazing career in bowls. He has won many important championships. These include both outdoor and indoor world titles.

World Outdoor Championships

Tony Allcock won two gold medals at the 1980 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Melbourne. He won with his team and in the triples event. His triples teammates were Jimmy Hobday and the famous David Bryant.

Four years later, at the 1984 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Aberdeen, he won two more medals. One was a gold medal in the fours event. His fours teammates were George Turley, John Bell, and Julian Haines.

He won three more medals at the 1988 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Auckland. After that, he won two gold medals in singles. These were at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Worthing and the 1996 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide. In total, he has won seventeen world titles.

Commonwealth Games

Tony Allcock played in the Commonwealth Games three times. He competed in 1990, 1994, and 1998. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, he won a silver medal. This was in the singles event.

Tony Allcock also helped the England team as a coach. He was the bowls performance coach for the team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He was also the Chief Executive of Bowls England for many years.

World Indoor Championships

Tony Allcock was also very successful in indoor bowls. He won the singles title three times. These wins were in 1986, 1987, and 2002.

He also won the pairs championship eight times. Six of these wins were with David Bryant. Their pairs titles were in 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992. He won two more pairs titles with other partners. These were with Mervyn King in 1997 and with David Holt in 2003.

National Championships

Tony Allcock has won eight National Championship titles in England. He won singles titles in 1990 and 1991. He also won triples titles in 1990 and 1995. In 1994, he won a fours title.

He also won junior singles titles in 1975, 1977, and 1981. He played for Belgrave BC and later for Cheltenham BC. In 1992, he won the singles title at the British Isles Bowls Championships.

Tony Allcock's Life Outside Bowls

Tony Allcock was the chief executive of Bowls England. He held this important role from 2008 until 2020.

He has also received special honors for his work in bowls. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1989. Later, in 2019, he was promoted to Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). These awards recognize his great contributions to the sport of lawn bowls.
