Tony Mayberry (born December 8, 1967) is a former American football player. He played as a center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tony was with the Buccaneers from 1990 to 1999. He was chosen in the fourth round of the 1990 NFL Draft. Tony was also picked for the Pro Bowl three times.
Early Life and College Football
Tony Mayberry was born on December 8, 1967, in Würzburg, Germany. He later attended Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia. After high school, Tony went to Wake Forest University. He played college football for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons from 1986 to 1989. In 1989, he was named to the Second-team All-ACC. This showed he was one of the best players in his college league.
Playing in the NFL
Tony Mayberry began his professional football career in 1990. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked him in the fourth round of the 1990 NFL Draft. He was the 108th player chosen overall. Tony played as a center for the Buccaneers for ten seasons. He was a key player on their offensive line.
During his time with the Buccaneers, Tony played in 160 games. He started 145 of those games. This means he was on the field for almost every play. Tony was recognized as one of the best centers in the league. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times. These selections were for the 1997, 1998, and 1999 seasons. The Pro Bowl is an honor for the top players in the NFL. Tony Mayberry retired from playing football after the 1999 season.
