Tony Mario Sylva, born on May 17, 1975, is a famous former football goalkeeper from Senegal. He played professional football for 16 years, mostly in France. He played 157 games in France's top league, Ligue 1, for teams like Monaco and Lille.
Tony Sylva also played for the Senegal national team. He was their goalkeeper in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. Since 2015, he has been the goalkeeping coach for the Senegal national team, working with Aliou Cissé.

Tony Sylva's Club Career
Tony Sylva was born in Guédiawaye, Senegal. He spent almost ten years playing for AS Monaco FC. During most of this time, he played for their reserve team. He was a backup goalkeeper to famous players like Fabien Barthez and Flavio Roma.
Early Days at Monaco
Tony Sylva made his first appearance in France's top league, then called Division 1, on September 12, 1999. His team played against Stade Rennais FC and lost 2–1. That season, he played six games and helped Monaco win the national championship in 1999–2000.
While at Monaco, he also played on loan for other teams. He played for Gazélec Ajaccio, SAS Épinal, and AC Ajaccio. The last two teams played in Ligue 2, which is the second division of French football. He left Monaco in 2004.
Moving to Lille and Trabzonspor
After leaving Monaco, Tony Sylva joined Lille OSC for free in 2004. He played very well for Lille, appearing in at least 30 league games each season for four years. He helped his team finish second in the 2004–05 season.
In 2008, he moved to Turkey to play for Trabzonspor. He played there for two seasons. Tony Sylva retired from football in June 2010 when he was 35 years old.
Tony Sylva's International Career
Tony Sylva played for the Senegal national team for nine years. He earned 83 caps, which means he played in 83 international matches. His first game for Senegal was on June 6, 1999. It was a 2–2 draw against Burkina Faso during the qualifiers for the 2000 African Cup of Nations.
World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations
Tony Sylva was the main goalkeeper for Senegal at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. This was Senegal's first time ever playing in the World Cup. He helped his team reach the quarter-finals, which was a huge achievement for them. He also played in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments for his country.
