Early Life and Music
Tony grew up in Queens, New York. His family came from Trinidad and Antigua. He started his drumming career with a group called Labelle. For a short time, he was also part of the band Ecstasy, Passion & Pain.
Playing with Famous Artists
Tony became a main drummer for the band Chic. While he was with Chic, he also got to play with many other famous musicians. These included Jody Watley, Madonna, Rod Stewart, Adam Ant, Mick Jagger, and David Bowie. His drumming helped make their songs sound great!
The Power Station and Later Years
Later, Tony became the drummer for another popular band called The Power Station. This band had a unique rock sound. Tony was still making music with a band called Non-Toxic when he passed away.
Tony's Legacy
Tony Thompson died in Los Angeles from kidney cancer. He left behind his wife, Patrice Jennings, and their two children. Just two months before Tony passed away, his bandmate Robert Palmer also died. On September 19, 2005, Tony Thompson and the other members of the band Chic were honored. They were added to the Dance Music Hall of Fame for their amazing contributions to music.
