Anthony Terrence Thompson (born November 15, 1954 – died November 12, 2003) was an American drummer. He was famous for being the drummer of the band the Power Station. He was also a key member of the disco and funk band Chic.

Tony Thompson grew up in Springfield Gardens, a neighborhood in Queens, New York City. His mother was from Trinidad and his father was from Antigua.
Tony Thompson's Music Career
Drumming with Chic
Tony Thompson first played drums for the group Labelle. Then, he briefly joined the band Ecstasy, Passion & Pain. After that, he became a long-time member of Chic. With Chic, he helped create many hit songs. These included "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)," "Le Freak," and "Good Times."
He also played with Chic members on songs for other artists. These included "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. He also played on "Upside Down" by Diana Ross.
After Chic took a break in 1983, Tony's drumming was in high demand. He played with many famous artists. These included Madonna on her album Like a Virgin. He also played with Rod Stewart, Robert Palmer, and David Bowie.
Playing with Other Bands
Tony Thompson was also a member of the band the Power Station. He played alongside Robert Palmer and members of Duran Duran. In 1985, Tony played with the Power Station at the Live Aid concert. He also joined the remaining members of Led Zeppelin on stage.
Later, he joined groups like the Distance and Crown of Thorns. In the mid-1990s, he rejoined Power Station for their album Living in Fear. His last music project was a band called Non-Toxic. He was working on their first album when he passed away.
Tony Thompson's Legacy
Tony Thompson passed away on November 12, 2003, in Los Angeles. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer shortly before his death. He was 48 years old.
Tony was a very important drummer. Many musicians, like Dave Grohl, said he inspired them. In 2005, Tony was honored after his death. He was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame along with other members of Chic.
