Toolesboro is a small place in southeastern Louisa County, Iowa, United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.

You can find Toolesboro on Iowa Route X99. It's about seven miles southeast of a town called Wapello. The Iowa River flows just to the east of the community.

The Famous Mounds

Just north of Toolesboro, you'll find the Toolesboro Mound Group. These are ancient earth mounds built by Native Americans long ago. How Toolesboro Began

The community of Toolesboro itself was officially planned and laid out around the year 1837. A person named William L. Toole was responsible for setting up the community.
