History of Wapello
Wapello was first planned out in the late 1830s. This is when people started to lay out streets and plots of land for buildings.
The city gets its name from a famous Meskwaki chief named Wapello. He was an important leader for his people.
Geography and Location
Wapello is found on the west side of the Iowa River. This river is a major waterway in the state.
US Route 61 is a main road that goes right through the community. This makes it easy to travel to and from Wapello.
