What the Movie is About
This movie follows the adventures of Top Cat and his gang of alley cats. They live in an alley and are always looking for ways to get rich or have fun. Their main challenge is often Officer Dibble, a police officer who tries to keep them in line.
Top Cat's Big Plan
The story begins with Top Cat trying to impress a female cat named Trixie. He hears about a very generous ruler called the Maharajah of Peekajoo. This Maharajah is known for his valuable rubies. Top Cat thinks if he can get some rubies, Trixie will be impressed.
Top Cat and his friends go to a special hall to meet the Maharajah. They trick a rude man named Lou Strickland to get his tickets. While the gang distracts Officer Dibble, Top Cat makes a deal with the Maharajah. Instead of rubies, he gets a cool device called the "Maharajah Talk 5000."
Strickland's Robot Police
The next day, Officer Dibble gets a new boss: Strickland. Strickland is the son-in-law of the retired police chief. He replaces all the police staff with robots, thinking they are better. Top Cat stops Strickland from kicking him out of the alley. This makes Strickland angry because he needs the Mayor's money for his robot police army.
Strickland finds out about Top Cat and Trixie. He uses Trixie to keep Top Cat away from the alley. While Top Cat is gone, Strickland carries out his revenge plan. When Top Cat returns, his gang is upset with him. He gets arrested by the police and is sent to Dog Jail for a crime he didn't commit.
Life in Dog Jail
With Top Cat in jail, Strickland gets the Mayor's money. He creates a huge robot police army and a city-wide camera system. This system watches everyone, taking away their privacy. Meanwhile, Top Cat becomes very popular in Dog Jail. He turns the jail into a fun place for the other prisoners.
Top Cat's gang struggles without him. They start to doubt him, which Top Cat sees on the security cameras. Strickland becomes a tyrant, making silly laws to take money from people. He wants to use the money to make himself "more handsome."
The Gang Fights Back
Trixie quits her job because she's tired of Strickland's unfair rules. She goes to Officer Dibble and shows him proof. A robot version of Top Cat, sent by Strickland, robbed the orphanage. This proves Top Cat is innocent!
Strickland arrives and tells Dibble his true plans. He also admits he's not the old chief's son-in-law. Dibble escapes to tell Top Cat's gang. But Trixie gets captured by the robot police.
Dibble tells the gang what really happened. They go to Big Gus, who owes Top Cat a favor, to help break Top Cat out of jail. Big Gus leads them through an underground tunnel to the Dog Jail. The gang apologizes to Top Cat for doubting him.
The Final Showdown
Their cover is blown, so the gang and Dibble escape through a sewer. They end up at Strickland's headquarters. The gang dresses up as robots to get inside. They find that Strickland has locked up everyone in the city and stolen all the city's money.
Dibble distracts Strickland. The gang, still in their robot disguises, heads to Strickland's control center. But they accidentally set off an alarm and get locked in Strickland's vault. Only Top Cat is left outside.
Strickland orders his robots to destroy Top Cat. As one robot enters, Top Cat realizes the security system was made by the Maharajah of Pookajee. Top Cat uses his "Maharajah Talk 5000" device, which controls the robots. In a panic, Strickland makes his robot army self-destruct. Only one robot remains, which turns out to be Fancy-Fancy in disguise!
Everyone who was imprisoned, including Top Cat's gang, is freed. Strickland is helpless. Dibble arrests him and, following Top Cat's idea, sends him to Dog Jail.
In the end, Top Cat and Trixie get back together. Officer Dibble becomes the new Chief of Police. The gang is happy, and even Griswald asks to join Top Cat's group, which Top Cat accepts.
