Discovering Tor
Tor is a fascinating place with a unique history. It is known for its beautiful mountain setting and its past events. The village offers a glimpse into traditional mountain life.
Where is Tor Located?
Tor is nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees. This mountain range forms a natural border between Spain and France, and also touches Andorra. Being so high up, Tor experiences cold winters and mild summers. Its location near the Andorran border has played a big role in its history.
Tor's Unique History
For a long time, Tor was a place where people moved goods across the border. This often involved trading items without paying taxes. It was a common activity in many border areas.
More recently, Tor became well-known because of a big disagreement. This dispute was about who owned a specific mountain near the Andorra border. During a time when land prices were rising quickly in Spain, this mountain became very valuable.
The Mountain Dispute
The disagreement over the mountain caused a lot of tension among local families. Sadly, this conflict led to very serious and tragic events. These events were so significant that a book was written about them. The book is called Tor: tretze cases i tres morts, which means "Tor: thirteen houses and three dead." It was written by Carles Porta and tells the story of the village's challenging past.
