The Toromocho mine is a very large mine in the center of Peru. It is located in the Junín Region. This mine is famous for producing copper.

Toromocho holds one of the biggest copper supplies in Peru and the world. Experts believe it has about 1.52 billion tons of rock. This rock contains copper, molybdenum, and silver.

About the Toromocho Mine

The Toromocho mine is mainly known for its copper. Copper is a metal used in many things, like wires and pipes. The mine also produces molybdenum and silver. Molybdenum is used to make strong steel. Silver is a precious metal.

How the Mine Was Planned

Before the mine could be built, a special study was done. This study is called an environmental impact assessment (EIA). It checks how the mine might affect the environment. The study for Toromocho was approved on December 14, 2010. The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines gave the approval.

A company called Knight Piésold helped with the environmental study. Another company, Cosapi Engineering and Construction, designed the mine in 2008. They planned how the mine would be built and how it would work.

What the Mine Produces

The Toromocho mine is designed to process a lot of rock every day. It can treat about 117,200 tons of rock daily. From this, it can produce about 210,000 tons of copper each year.

In 2013, Jacobs Engineering Group studied how to make the mine even bigger. This type of study is called a feasibility study. It helps decide if expanding the mine is a good idea.
