The construction of the Entel Tower began on July 1, 1970. This was part of a bigger plan to improve telecommunications in Chile. After four years of work, the tower reached its full height on August 30, 1974. Its design was inspired by the Post Office Tower in London, which was built a few years earlier.

Later, in September 1975, two large satellite dishes were added to the tower. These were the first parts of the tower that people could see from far away. On April 12, 1976, the tower started working for telephone calls.

From that moment on, the Entel Tower became super important for Chile's communication system. It connected phone, TV, radio, and microwave networks across the country. It even connected to a satellite station called Longovilo. Today, the tower still handles international calls and connects different parts of Chile.

On New Year's Eve 2009, a huge LED screen was turned on at the top of the tower. This screen was the biggest in South America at the time. It was installed to celebrate Chile's 200th anniversary of independence. The screen is 320 square meters (about 3,444 square feet) and shows weather information and news.

For people in Chile, the Entel Tower is a true landmark. You can see it from many parts of the capital city. It's a popular spot for photos and helps people find their way around.
