Torrington is a small community called a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada. It is about 160 kilometers (100 miles) northeast of Calgary. You can find it where Highway 27 and Highway 805 meet.
Torrington is part of Kneehill County. It is located in a larger area called Census Division No. 5. The main way people make a living here is through farming, also known as agriculture.

The Gopher Hole Museum
Torrington is famous for its unique Gopher Hole Museum. This museum is special because it features stuffed Richardson's ground squirrels. These animals are often called "gophers," even though they are technically ground squirrels.
The museum shows these stuffed animals in funny, human-like scenes. They are dressed up and placed in different settings, like a tiny town. It is a very creative and unusual museum that many visitors enjoy.
Gopher Fun Around Town
The love for gophers does not stop at the museum! In Torrington, you can see a very large outdoor sculpture. It is a 12-foot-tall gopher named "Clem T. GoFur." This big statue is a fun landmark in the community.
Also, all 11 of Torrington's fire hydrants are painted to look like gophers. This adds to the town's playful and unique charm.
Torrington's History
Torrington used to be a village. This means it had its own local government. However, in 1997, it changed its status. It became a hamlet, which means it is now managed by Kneehill County.

In 2021, Statistics Canada counted the number of people living in Torrington. The population was 239 people. These residents lived in 110 homes. This was a small increase from its population of 201 people in 2016.
