The Gopher Hole Museum

Torrington is famous for its unique Gopher Hole Museum. This museum is special because it features stuffed Richardson's ground squirrels. These animals are often called "gophers," even though they are technically ground squirrels.

The museum shows these stuffed animals in funny, human-like scenes. They are dressed up and placed in different settings, like a tiny town. It is a very creative and unusual museum that many visitors enjoy.

Gopher Fun Around Town

The love for gophers does not stop at the museum! In Torrington, you can see a very large outdoor sculpture. It is a 12-foot-tall gopher named "Clem T. GoFur." This big statue is a fun landmark in the community.

Also, all 11 of Torrington's fire hydrants are painted to look like gophers. This adds to the town's playful and unique charm.

Torrington's History

Torrington used to be a village. This means it had its own local government. However, in 1997, it changed its status. It became a hamlet, which means it is now managed by Kneehill County.
