The Tower of Jewels is a famous building at Lakeside Amusement Park in Lakeside, Colorado. This town is just west of Denver. When it was built, the Tower of Jewels was one of the tallest buildings in Colorado. It stands 150 feet (about 46 meters) high. It also shines brightly with over 5,000 lights!
History of the Tower
The Tower of Jewels was designed by a well-known architect named Edwin H. Moorman. Construction started on September 24, 1907. It was one of the first 15 buildings created for the park.
The Park's Founders
The park was built by a group called the Lakeside Realty & Amusement Company. People often called them the "Brewers Syndicate." This group included important people like Adolph Zang, who was a famous brewer in Denver. Other founders were Godfrey Schirmer, Peter J. Friederich, John A. Keefe, and Albert Lewin. They wanted to create a fun new place for people to visit.
Original Purpose and Features
When it was first built, the Tower of Jewels had a huge spotlight on top. This spotlight was very powerful, shining with 10,000 candelas. It was actually used before on the Ferris wheel at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
The building itself was originally a casino and a casino theater. A casino is a place where people play games for money. Today, the Tower of Jewels holds the park's offices. It's amazing how this historic building still stands and serves the park after so many years!
