Transformers: Robots in Disguise is an exciting animated TV series. It was first known in Japan as Transformers: Car Robots. The show was made by Nihon Ad Systems and Studio Gallop. They worked with a Korean company called Dongwoo Animation.

This series first aired in Japan in 2000. Later, it came to the United States. It was shown as part of the Fox Kids TV block from 2001 to 2002. Even though it was first planned as a new story, it later became part of the Japanese Transformers history. In Western countries, it stayed as a separate series. The show was brought to the West as a "filler" while a new series, Transformers: Armada, was being made. Each episode of Robots in Disguise is about 27 minutes long.

Story of the Robots in Disguise

The story begins when the evil Megatron captures Dr. Kenneth Onishi. The brave Autobots team up with Dr. Onishi's son, Koji. They promise to rescue his father from Megatron's grasp.

Megatron often tries to steal Earth's energy. His helper, Sky-Byte, leads many of these plans. But the Autobots always stop them. New Autobot teams, like Team Bullet Train and the Spy Changers, join the fight.

Uncovering Ancient Secrets

Megatron uses his powers to learn from Dr. Onishi's mind. He finds out about an old cave system. The Autobots also find a secret microchip from the Doctor there. After some battles with new Autobots, Skid-Z and Tow-Line, the chip leads them to the Cave of the Dragon. Inside, they find a mysterious object from their home planet, Cybertron.

More information from Dr. Onishi's chip leads the Autobots to a crashed Cybertronian spaceship. This ship holds six Autobot protoforms. These are like empty robot bodies. Megatron also learns about the ship. He attacks and takes the protoforms. He gives them his own energy. This turns them into the evil Decepticons.

The Rise of Scourge

One protoform scans Optimus Prime and a tanker truck. This creates Scourge. He is like an evil copy of Optimus. Many battles happen between the Decepticons and the Autobots. Sky-Byte gets jealous because Megatron likes his new warriors more.

Sky-Byte tries to prove himself. He holds humans hostage for the Autobots' O-Parts. One of these parts is the artifact from the Cave of the Dragon. His plan fails, but Sky-Byte saves the hostages. Koji starts to think Sky-Byte might not be so bad.

New Allies and Mergers

Then, Ultra Magnus arrives on Earth. He is Optimus Prime's brother. He wants the Matrix, a powerful item Optimus has. This leads to Optimus Prime facing danger from the Decepticons. Magnus offers to help, but it's a trick. He tries to take the Matrix's power.

Something unexpected happens: the two brothers merge! They become Omega Prime. Together, they defeat their enemies. The Predacons and Decepticons try to get Ultra Magnus to join them. But he refuses. He uses the Matrix's power. This gives the Autobot Brothers new 'Supercharge Modes'.

The Power of Fortress Maximus

A strange energy field is found under Earth. Both sides discover Fortress Maximus. He is a giant city Transformer hidden on the planet. He is there to protect it. During the battles for Maximus's power, Dr. Onishi is accidentally freed by Sky-Byte.

With Dr. Onishi's help, the Autobots find all the O-Parts. These parts form a map to the Orb of Sigma. Megatron tries to get the orb but gets buried. The pyramid's energy brings him back as Galvatron.

The Orb of Sigma leads the Autobots to Cerebros. This is the key to Fortress Maximus's power. The Decepticons steal Cerebros. Scourge uses it to activate Maximus. Maximus starts to rampage until Koji calls out to him. Maximus stops.

It becomes clear that Maximus responds to humans. The Decepticons try to capture Koji. But they accidentally grab his friend Carl instead. Scourge tries to use Maximus to destroy Galvatron. But his plan fails. All the Decepticons' bad thoughts are erased.

Galvatron then drains Maximus's energy. This makes him even stronger. He sends out cyber-bats to hold children hostage. He thinks he has defeated the Autobots. But they are still alive!

The Final Showdown

The final battle happens at Earth's core. The children of the world give energy to Fortress Maximus. He sends this energy to Omega Prime. This forms the Matrix Blade. With it, Omega Prime finally defeats Galvatron.

At the end, most of the Predacons and Decepticons are captured. They are put on Fortress Maximus. Ultra Magnus takes them back to Cybertron. The remaining Autobots get ready to leave Earth. They enjoy some rest first.
