Tregear is a suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 47 kilometers (29 miles) west of the main city center of Sydney. Tregear is part of the City of Blacktown area, which is in the wider Greater Western Sydney region.
This suburb has different types of homes. You can find privately owned houses here. There are also homes managed by the Department of Housing. Tregear also has its own small shopping area. In 2011, about 3,916 people lived in Tregear. The land area of the suburb is 163 hectares.
History of Tregear
The name Tregear comes from an old homestead. This homestead was once owned by John King-Lethbridge. He was part of the Lethbridge family. The name "Tregear" was inspired by the Lethbridge family's estate. This estate was located in Cornwall, England. The Lethbridge family owned this land for many years. In 1942, the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) took over the land. Later, in 1951, it was sold.
Shopping and Services
Tregear has a handy local shopping center. This center includes an IGA supermarket. You can also find a chemist and a post office there. There's a newsagent for newspapers and magazines. If you're hungry, there's a kebab shop and a take-away shop. A doctor's office is also located in the center.
Outside the shops, there is a small car park. You can also find a public pay phone. For bigger shopping trips, Westfield Mount Druitt Shopping Centre is only a 10-minute drive away. Tregear itself has only two sets of traffic lights. There are also three general practitioner (GP) offices in the suburb.
Local Schools
Tregear is home to a public primary school. This school serves the younger students in the area. There is also a preschool available. This preschool also functions as a church.
Fun and Recreation
For outdoor activities, Tregear has a large area called Tregear Reserve. This reserve covers a big part of the suburb. It's a great place for dog owners. You can walk your dogs off-leash in this area.
