What's in a Name? The Story of Treichlers

The name "Treichlers" comes from a man named Henry Treichler. He used to run a grist mill in the area during the mid-to-late 1800s. A grist mill is a place where grains like wheat or corn are ground into flour.

Before it was called Treichlers, the community had a different name: Kuntzford or Kuntz Ford. This name honored the family of Bernard Kuntz, who was one of the first settlers in Lehigh Township.

In the 1870s, when a train line from the Central Railroad of New Jersey started running through the village, the name was changed again to Treichler's Station. Over time, it became simply Treichlers. The name is pronounced "TRYKE-lerz."
