The Trevélez River: A Journey Through Spain

The Trevélez River begins high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, north of the town of Trevélez. These mountains are very tall and often have snow on their peaks, even in warmer months. The river starts from melting snow and small springs, gathering water as it flows downhill.

Where the River Flows

After starting in the Sierra Nevada, the Trevélez River flows south and then west. It passes right through the town of Trevélez, which is known for being one of the highest villages in Spain. As it continues its journey, the river carves its way through a narrow, deep valley, also known as a gorge. This gorge is located south of the villages of Busquístar and the La Tahá area.

Joining Other Rivers

The Trevélez River doesn't flow into the sea by itself. Instead, it eventually joins another river called the Rio Poqueira. This happens not long before both rivers combine with an even larger river, the Río Guadalfeo. The Río Guadalfeo then continues its path until it finally reaches the Mediterranean Sea. This shows how many rivers are connected, forming a network that carries water from the mountains to the sea.
